GDB Holdings Bhd has been awarded close to RM83 million in adjudication claim, interest and fees in a case against a unit of KSK Land Sdn Bhd in relation to its termination as the main contractor for the 8 Conlay project.
The adjudication under the Construction Industry Payment and Adjudication Act 2012 (CIPAA 2012) was between GDB’s wholly-owned subsidiary Grand Dynamic Builders Sdn Bhd (GDBSB) and KSK Land’s unit Damai City Sdn Bhd. Its proceedings began on Oct 4, 2024.
In an exchange filing today (Feb 18), GDB said it has been notified by its solicitors that the adjudication decision dated Feb 17 has been released and received on the same day.
Based on the decision, it said the adjudicator has determined and delivered his decision in favour of GDBSB. Among others, Damai City is to pay RM82.67 million plus a simple interest on the sum of RM5.93 million and RM158,844.80 for the adjudication proceedings.
In October 2020, the construction services firm announced that GDBSB had secured its then single-largest contract of approximately RM1.25 billion to complete the remaining main building works for 8 Conlay, the upscale integrated mixed development in Jalan Conlay, Kuala Lumpur.
In the announcement then, it said the project had involved three towers, atop a four-storey experiential retail space. The integrated mixed development was to feature the first and only five-star 68 storeys high Kempinski Hotel in Malaysia and two twisted towers devoted exclusively to branded serviced residences called YOO8 serviced by Kempinski. — TMR
