Malaysia condemns Trump’s Gaza plan in Parliament

MALAYSIA had condemned US President Donald Trump’s plan to oust Palestinians from Gaza in Parliament today.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan (picture) told the Dewan Rakyat that Trump’s statement contradicts all international conventions and treaties.

“We support (Palestinians) and we vehemently reject (Trump’s proposal).

“We vehemently insist that what is being suggested, what has already been said, is beyond sane thought,” he told Parliament this morning.

Mohamad was responding to a question from Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah (Barisan Nasional-Paya Besar) who asked for Malaysia’s reaction to Trump, who announced his plan to take over the Gaza Strip and resettle Palestinians elsewhere.

The UMNO deputy president stated that Wisma Putra has already issued a statement expressing its disagreement with and rejection of Trump’s proposal, and that ASEAN — of which Malaysia is the current chair — will soon follow with its own statement.

Trump on Feb 4 said the US “will take over the Gaza Strip,” and “we’ll own it”.

Trump said that all Palestinians currently living in Gaza — around two million people — should leave and be placed in other countries in the Middle East, among them Jordan and Egypt, while the US develops the territory. — TMR
