KUALA LUMPUR — A duty manager of a hotel was sentenced to 12 months in jail and two strokes of the cane by the Sessions Court here today after pleading guilty to a charge of criminal breach of trust (CBT) amounting to more than RM30,000 in hotel room payments.
Judge Hamidah Mohamed Deril handed down the sentence on S. Sanjiv Kumar, 36, and ordered him to serve the sentence from the date of arrest, which was last Jan 20.
He was charged as the person tasked to manage the hotel counter and handle customer check-in and hotel room payment to have committed CBT involving RM31,791.73 in room payments for personal use.
The offence was committed at a hotel in Bukit Bintang, here between Jan 31 and Feb 14 last year.
The charge, under Section 408 of the Penal Code, provides imprisonment for up to 14 years with whipping and a fine, upon conviction.
The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Nur Shakila Mohd Shariff while the accused was unrepresented. — BERNAMA
