Bursa Malaysia remains lower at midmorning

KUALA LUMPUR — Bursa Malaysia remained in negative territory at midmorning, with continued selling in selected heavyweights, led by YTL Corporation Bhd (YTL Corp) and YTL Power International Bhd.

YTL Corp shed 29 sen to RM3.76 and YTL Power International decreased 19 sen to RM2.19, dragging the composite index down by a combined 7.63 points.

At 11 am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) shed 8.93 points to 1,568.27 from yesterday’s close of 1,577.20, despite starting the day 0.30 of-a-point higher at 1,577.50.

Market breadth was negative with losers outpacing gainers 502 to 172. Meanwhile, 338 counters were unchanged, 1,409 untraded and 133 suspended.

Turnover reached 1.31 billion shares valued at RM892.24 million.

Among the heavyweights, Maybank slid two sen to RM10.34, Public Bank slipped one sen to RM4.33 and Tenaga Nasional was 12 sen weaker at RM13.68, while CIMB added two sen to RM7.99 and IHH Healthcare increased one sen to RM7.18.

As for the active stocks, Oriental Kopi Holdings gave up one sen to 86.5 sen, Gamuda notched down 23 sen to RM4.06 and Vanzo Holdings edged down half-a-sen to 19 sen, while Velesto Energy and TWL Holdings were both flat at 19 sen and 2.5 sen, respectively.

On the broader market, the FBM Emas Index dwindled 74.72 points to 12,008.04, the FBMT 100 Index trimmed 71.58 points to 11,697.22, the FBM Emas Shariah Index slipped 80.60 points to 11,869.50, the FBM ACE Index fell 29.37 points to 5,195.99, and the FBM 70 Index lost 128.11 points to 17,909.49.

Sector-wise, the Energy Index depreciated 10.91 points to 831.73, the Financial Services Index decreased 14.51 points to 18,847.83, the Industrial Products and Services Index edged down 0.71 of-a-point to 168.21, and the Plantation Index reduced 15.10 points to 7,391.58. — BERNAMA
