MOSCOW — US broadcaster CNN is preparing to lay off hundreds of employees as it refocuses to digital operations, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.
According to CNBC on Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter, the move comes as CNN, which has about 3,500 employees, aims to shift from its broadcast operations to reach a global digital audience by building digital subscription products.
The cuts will allow the network to reduce production costs and consolidate teams, they said, adding that the changes are not expected to affect CNN’s most recognisable faces.
The network also plans to move some of its shows from Washington and New York to Atlanta to make production cheaper.
Another network, NBC, is also planning to reduce its staff, but the cuts there are expected to be significantly less than 50 people, two other people told CNBC. — BERNAMA-SPUTNIK/RIA NOVOSTI
