Flood-affected areas will be assessed before RM1m allocation distribution

THERE will be an assessment on the areas affected by floods before the government channels RM1 million to the respective MPs, said Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

He said the government will focus on recovery, including damages to amenities and buildings that involve public needs.

“Decisions will be made after immediate situations are resolved,” Fadillah told reporters after the launch of the Putrajaya Urban Observatory (PUO) in conjunction with the Digital Putrajaya Exhibition and Conference (DiPEC2024)

Yesterday, Arau MP Shahidan Kassim called for an immediate RM1 million allocation to Opposition MPs whose areas have been affected by the floods in order to assist victims.

Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal has also requested that the government direct financial assistance to elected representatives in flood-affected areas to prevent delays in providing aid.

Fadillah, who is also deputy prime minister, established a “war room” to prepare for potential stagnant flooding following major floods since October, which will involve several agencies such as the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) and Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB).

As of 8pm yesterday, the number of flood victims in flood-hit states across Malaysia has dipped to 59,815 compared to 72,620 earlier in the evening.
