MALAYSIA is ready to channel financial assistance to Lebanon to help victims affected by the Israeli Zionist regime’s attack on the country.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he made the announcement during a courtesy call from his Lebanese counterpart, Najib Mikati, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia today.
The Lebanese Prime Minister’s courtesy call was before the Extraordinary Arab-Islamic Summit which is also held today.
“Malaysia has been directly affected by the ongoing tensions in Lebanon, following Israeli attacks that left six members of the Malaysian Battalion (MALBATT), part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), injured.
“I had also informed PM Mikati that Malaysia is ready to channel financial assistance to Lebanon to help victims affected by the Israeli attack,” he wrote in his social media posts today.
This summit was held in Saudi Arabia that will focus on Israel’s devastating wars in Gaza and Lebanon, according to Saudi state media.
In a report on Nov 11, the Saudi Press Agency said Israel’s “aggression” in Gaza and Lebanon “has compelled Arab and Islamic leaders to take urgent action”.
“Key priorities [for the summit] include halting the aggression, protecting civilians, providing support to the Palestinian and Lebanese people, unifying positions, and exerting pressure on the international community to take decisive steps to end the ongoing attacks and establish lasting peace and stability in the region,” it added.
