MOSCOW — The team of US President-elect Donald Trump is considering ending two incumbent US President Joe Biden’s programmes which may force more than 1.3 million legal immigrants to leave the country, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti, citing NBC News on Saturday.
The first people likely to be deported are those considered to be threats, including Chinese men of military age living illegally in the United States, the sources said. This group would also include convicted criminals and those with final orders of deportation, they added.
CNN has earlier reported, citing sources in the US Department of Defence, that the Pentagon was discussing a response to Trump’s possible order to use the military to enforce order in the country, specifically regarding the deportation of migrants.
The Axios news outlet has reported that Trump planned to deport millions of undocumented immigrants with the help of law enforcement officials. The New York Times reported that Trump intended to establish camps where ineligible foreigners would be detained pending their removal from the country.
Trump repeatedly addressed immigration policy issues during his campaign. He has argued that the policies of the Biden administration have led the US to resemble a third-world country. In his speeches, Trump has advocated for stricter controls on migrants and a reevaluation of existing immigration programmes. — BERNAMA-SPUTNIK/RIA NOVOSTI
