SIX Malaysian soldiers were injured in an explosion near their convoy in Lebanon, the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) confirmed on Thursday.

The incident took place on Nov 7, 2024, at 1:54pm local time (7:54pm Malaysian time) near Saida Stadium, as the Malaysian Battalion 850-12 (MALBATT 850-12) team, which just arrived to continue peacekeeping missions in Lebanon, was travelling from Beirut to Marakah Camp.

The explosion, targeting a vehicle heading towards Beirut, also impacted the nearby Malaysian convoy bus carrying personnel.

Among the injured are five MALBATT 850-12 personnel, including one with a suspected fractured left arm, while the remaining sustained minor injuries.

Another soldier from MALBATT 850-11 also suffered minor injuries.

The injured personnel were immediately taken to Hamood Hospital in Saida, where they are receiving medical attention from MALBATT’s medical officer.

ATM said it is closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as necessary.

The safety and welfare of all personnel remain a top priority as they continue peacekeeping operations under the United Nations.
