Selangor forms special task force to rehabilitate Global Ikhwan children

THE Selangor government has formed a special task force to review the rehabilitation programme for children rescued from charity homes and religious schools related to Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISBH).

In a statement, the state said the task force will hold its first meeting this Friday, co-chaired by the Selangor Islamic Affairs Exco Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah and Women’s Development and Social Welfare Exco Anfaal Saari.

It aims to address the children’s religious, welfare, health and mental needs.

“The task force will focus on rehabilitation methods not only for religious issues but also for welfare, health and mental-physical development to ensure these children can be reintegrated into society,” said the statement.

The team includes the police, Social Welfare Department (JKM), Selangor State Education Department, Lembaga Zakat Selangor, Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS), Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS), Yayasan MBI, Yayasan Selgate and child psychology experts.

In a related matter, MAIS has started its programme of faith and social rehabilitation of 261 children from GISBH.

Chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof said MAIS developed the special module in collaboration with JAIS and the Selangor State Al-Quran Tahfiz Institution Association (PITAS) since Oct 1.

Utusan Malaysia quoted Abdul Aziz as saying MAIS had already taken action on Sept 23 to develop a plan to provide religious and social rehabilitation assistance to GISBH children.

“Until now, a total of 20 al-Riqab teachers are involved in teaching at welfare homes under JKM’s supervision. We always prioritise their welfare and safety,” he said as quoted by the Malay daily.

Aziz added that MAIS through Yayasan Islam Darul Ehsan also channel basic needs for the children. — TMR
