Glove stocks lift Bursa Malaysia in midafternoon surge

KUALA LUMPUR — Bursa Malaysia remained higher at midafternoon today, with glove counters dominating the gainers’ list.

At 3.06 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) advanced 10.7 points to 1,662.85 from last Friday’s close of 1,638.31.

The FBM KLCI had opened 2.16 points higher at 1,654.31.

Across the broader market, gainers led decliners 536 to 469, with 389 counters unchanged, 1,111 untraded and seven suspended.

Turnover amounted to 2.25 billion units valued at RM2.05 billion.

Hartalega topped the gainers’ list, approaching its limit-up, surging 29.75 per cent, or 72 sen, to RM3.14. Kossan expanded by 37 sen to RM2.20, Top Glove surged 19.5 sen to RM1.11, and Supermax strengthened by 12.5 sen to 91.5 sen.

Among the heavyweights, CIMB soared 22 sen to RM8.38, TNB gained two sen to RM14.80, IHH Healthcare went up 27 sen to RM7.05, Hong Leong Bank and Petronas Chemicals rose eight sen each to RM21.28 and RM5.58, respectively, Maybank was flat at RM10.64 and Public Bank eased one sen to RM4.69.

For the active counters, Sarawak Consolidated edged up half-a-sen to 25 sen, MYEG added 1.5 sen to 91.5 sen, OCR was flat at six sen and Aimflex eased one sen to RM17.5 sen.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index gained 99.85 points to 12,402.16, the FBM Emas Shariah Index soared 131.34 points to 12,247.15, and the FBMT 100 Index perked up 103.51 points to 12,119.81.

The FBM 70 Index expanded by 245.08 points to 17,526.96, while the FBM ACE Index garnered 2.54 points to 5,081.7.

By sector, the Financial Services Index increased by 80.64 points to 19,631.74, the Industrial Products and Services Index increased by 1.33 points to 176.48, the Plantation Index advanced 15.84 points to 7,196.57 and the Energy Index decreased 3.07 points to 859.74. — BERNAMA
