Beware of scam syndicates using LHDN’s name

PUTRAJAYA — The Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDN) has issued a reminder to the public to exercise caution when encountering suspicious emails, links, or phone calls related to tax matters and government aid programmes.

This advisory comes in light of the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, which has been increasingly exploited by scammers,

These fraudsters have falsely associated LHDN with their schemes leading to confusion and victimisation among the public.

“These scam syndicates are leveraging the latest technology to deceive victims through various tactics.

“Despite numerous arrests by the authorities and widespread media coverage, the number of scam cases continues to rise each year,” LHDN said in a statement today.

The public is strongly advised not to share personal information on suspicious websites, links, or phone calls to prevent misuse by unscrupulous individuals.

LHDN also urges the public to report any information related to scam activities to the authorities so that swift action can be taken against these fraudulent practices. — BERNAMA
