THE Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) is tasked to meet the government’s expectations of opening 3,000 smart factories by 2030 as outlined in the New Industrial Master Plan 2030.
There are currently about 1,000 smart factories in Malaysia.
These factories are expected to contribute RM36.8 billion to Malaysia’s GDP.
FMM export and international business committee VP and chairman Datuk Andrew Goh Boon Kim said the federation has been encouraging more factories to adopt the smart technology approach.
“They could start with some automation before going fully automated,” he said at the “Shaping a Sustainable Future with AI-Powered Manufacturing” event today.
Goh further explained that artificial intelligence (AI) has been increasingly promoted and manufacturers need to adopt it.
However, he noted that AI is mainly adopted among big companies while smaller businesses still have a low adoption rate despite the encouragement from the government.
He also explained that adopting AI requires the entire team to be onboard.
“Everybody must work together to ensure the adoption of AI runs smoothly and efficiently.
“At the end of the day, smart technology is cost efficient and increases productivity as well as profit,” Goh added.
The “Shaping a Sustainable Future with AI-Powered Manufacturing” networking session was attended by industry professionals.
It featured presentation on “Intelligent Operations for a Sustainable Future”, a fireside chat on “The Transformation of Advanced Societies” as well as more insights on the Industrial Transformation Asia Pacific which will be held at Singapore Expo from Oct 14 to 16, 2024.
