THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has given a one-month extension for former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s two sons to declare their assets.
MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said Mirzan Mahathir and Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir (picture) have until mid-September to comply.
“This will be the final extension, and if they fail to comply, we will take legal action.
“Their lawyers have been in communication with MACC investigating officers concerning the asset declaration period. We have established a deadline for them to declare their assets and have reached an agreement on the matter,” he told a press conference today.
As of May 28, Mirzan and Mokhzani had yet to declare their assets to the MACC despite their deadlines approaching which were on May 29 and May 25 respectively.
MACC had said they however received the requests from them to extend the deadline.
The two brothers were given a 30-day deadline to declare their assets by the MACC in January.
They were also directed to declare their accumulated assets since 1981, the year Dr Mahathir became prime minister. — TMR
