THE Ministry of Health (MOH) said 9,159,151 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have expired, resulting in a loss of RM185 million. This estimate is also based on storage and logistics costs.
Minister Datuk Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said that covers 10.8% of the total 84.5 million doses of vaccine received by the government since the immunisation programme started on Feb 24, 2021.
“Approximately we are responsible for the losses we bear at RM185 million; this includes matters related to logistics, storage, storage and so on,” he told Dewan Rakyat today.
Dr Dzulkefly was responding to a question from Datuk Jalaluddin Alias (Barisan Nasional-Jelebu) who inquired about the actual number of Covid-19 vaccines that had to be disposed of due to expiration and the estimated losses incurred by the government.
He further explained that the disposal and reporting of expired vaccines are conducted according to the established asset management procedures and storage management procedures.
He also said the government is committed to ensure regular monitoring to maintain compliance with these protocols.
