Proton targets 2,500 monthly sales for the latest Proton X50

PROTON Holdings Bhd is aiming to sell 2,500 units of the upgraded compact SUV, Proton X50 2024, with prices starting from RM86,300 on-the-road, excluding insurance.

Proton deputy CEO Roslan Abdullah revealed that the Proton X50 2024, while maintaining its external appearance, has undergone 20 enhancements focusing on noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) features, aimed at reducing interior car vibrations and noise.

He shared that the company invested nearly RM6,000 per unit for these enhancements but opted to absorb the costs without increasing the selling price to alleviate consumer burdens.

“At its launch in October 2020, the Proton X50 received an overwhelming response and has continued to maintain its momentum, emerging as the leading B-segment SUV in Malaysia.

“However, the introduction of various models and brands in the same segment locally has somewhat impacted the sales volume of this model,” he said at the launch of the enhanced SUV today.

He added that with the introduction of new features, alongside the RM6,000 worth of enhancements aimed at providing greater comfort to consumers, the company anticipates sustaining sales momentum.

Proton also unveiled an Early Bird Package offering rebates of up to RM8,500 to the first 5,000 customers who register their new purchases by July 31, 2024.

In addition to a comprehensive benefits package designed to enhance ownership experience, the upgraded Proton X50 comes with a five-year unlimited mileage warranty, a five-year data package with one gigabyte (GB) per month and six complimentary labour services.

Other comfort features include the new, faster 33% dual-core 4GB RAM processing system and larger 64GB storage for the infotainment system head unit which is now also offered in a 10.3-inch size.

The model retains its 1.5-litre TGDI turbocharged engine with 177PS power and 255Nm torque, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

This combination enables the SUV to achieve a 0kph-100kph acceleration time in just 7.9 seconds.

In terms of safety, it provides six SRS airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), eight Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

It has an optimal blend of safety and convenience with the new high definition 360-degree camera, displaying clear images even in low light conditions.

The new X50 model is available in four variants with Proton maintaining prices starting with the Standard variant (RM86,300); Executive (RM93,300); Premium (RM101,800); and TGDi Flagship (RM113,300).

Since its debut in 2020, the Proton X50 has surpassed the milestone of 110,000 units sold, solidifying its status as the best-selling SUV in Malaysia over the past four years.
