Bursa Malaysia turns lower at mid-morning

BURSA Malaysia turned lower at mid-morning today, weighed down by selling in selected heavyweights, mainly the utilities and financial services sectors.

Tenaga Nasional eased four sen to RM13.18 and Public Bank shed one sen to RM4.12. Both counters dragged the composite index down by a combined 0.56 points.  

At 11 am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) eased 2.10 points to 1,616.17 from Monday’s close of 1,618.27.

The barometer index opened 2.38 points higher at 1,620.65.

On the broader market, decliners surpassed gainers 714 to 254, while 428 counters were unchanged, 1,028 untraded and 67 others suspended. 

Turnover was 2.27 billion shares worth RM1.26 billion.

Among other heavyweights, CIMB added one sen to  RM6.91, Maybank was flat at RM9.99, Petronas Chemicals and CelcomDigi were down four sen each to RM6.83 and RM4.04, respectively, and IHH Healthcare dipped five sen to RM6.24.

Among the actives, ACE Market debutante Smart Asia Chemical climbed 6.5 sen to 46.5 sen, GHL Systems rose five sen to RM1.06 and PDZ Holdings gained one sen to five sen, while Sin-Kung Logistics was flat at 14 sen and JCY International slid 1.5 sen to 50 sen.

On the index front, the FBM Emas Index fell by 37.54 points to 12,309.58, the FBMT 100 Index decreased by 32.87 points to 11,911.42, the FBM Emas Shariah Index shaved 60.67 points to 12,565.35, the FBM ACE Index was 68.86 points weaker at 5,481.06, and the FBM 70 Index shrank by 119.28 points to 17,684.46.

Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index eased 15.35 points to 17,642.99, the Industrial Products and Services Index inched down 1.16 points to 195.33, and the Energy Index slipped 6.32 points to 993.09, while the Plantation Index strengthened by 9.50 points to 7,267.58. — BERNAMA / pic MEDIA MULIA
