NEW DELHI — India’s Godrej family, among the wealthiest and most famous business families, has agreed to split the 127-year-old Godrej conglomerate whose activities span a vast range of consumer and industrial goods.
The family announced the ownership realignment of their shareholdings in the Mumbai-based corporation in a statement on Tuesday.
One set of businesses will be under Adi Godrej (picture), 82, and his 73-year-old brother Nadir, while another will be held by the families of their cousins Jamshyd Godrej, 75, and Smita Godrej Crishna, 74.
Godrej Enterprises Group (GEG), made up of flagship company Godrej & Boyce (G&B) and its affiliates, will be controlled by Jamshyd as chairperson and managing director, Smita’s daughter Nyrika Holkar as executive director, and their immediate families.
Their business interests cover aerospace, defence, engines and motors, energy, building materials, construction, healthcare equipment, durables, furniture, interior design, and information technology.
Godrej Industries Group (GIG), which includes the listed companies, will be controlled by Adi, Nadir and their immediate families.
Nadir will be GIG’s chairperson and Adi’s son Pirojsha Godrej its executive vice chairperson.
Pirojsha will succeed Nadir as the group chief in August 2026.
The GIG companies include Godrej Industries, Godrej Consumer Products, Godrej Properties, Godrej Agrovet and Astec Lifesciences.
“The realignment has been arrived at in a respectful and mindful way to maintain harmony and to better align ownership in acknowledgement of the differing visions of the Godrej family members. This will help maximise strategic direction, focus, agility, and will accelerate the process of creating long-term value for shareholders and all other stakeholders,” the family said. — BERNAMA / pic AFP
