Report : Umno returns all 75 village head positions to state government

UMNO Selangor returned all 75 positions of village head or Chairman of the Selangor Village Community Management Council (MPKK) offered to them back to the state government.

Utusan Malaysia reported Selangor Umno Chairman Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omar Din saying they instead wanted to fulfill the positions of Madani village community chairmen positions that will be created in every village throughout the state under the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development led by the party president, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

“We have agreed at the Selangor level to name (members appointed to the position) …all my divisions have asked to name the candidates for Madani village community chairmen at the village level.

“I have accepted and been appointed to the ministry, we have already received the approval, after Raya I will hold a meeting with all the chairmen and also the secretaries who numbered 746 people for me to submit their documents witnessed by all the department heads that I have already presented in the relationship meeting (last Saturday),” he said as quoted by the Utusan Malaysia portal.

Last January Megat Zulkarnain announced the party would hand over all 20 council member positions and requested that 373 MPKK chairman or village head positions to be given to Umno.

That is because, he said, Umno respects PH’s dominance in urban areas.

Previously, it was reported that the distribution formula for the 373 village head positions was based on the number of seats won by each PH and BN coalition party in Selangor.

Of the 56 seats in the Selangor State Assembly, PH has 32 seats, Perikatan Nasional (PN) 22 and the remaining two are owned by BN.

Umno is allocated 75 positions because of its two seats, namely Sungai Air Tawar and Dusun Tua. — TMR
