WASHINGTON — According to a media report, representatives of Israel and the United States (US) may meet in Washington on Monday for talks on the former’s planned ground offensive against the city of Rafah in the Gaza Strip, reported German news agency (dpa).
An Israeli delegation was originally due to arrive this week to listen to the concerns of the US and to be presented with alternatives.
However, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu cancelled the trip after the United Nations Security Council passed a resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire without opposition from the US.
The Israelis had proposed postponing the talks until Monday, the US broadcaster CNN quoted US officials as saying on Friday. — BERNAMA-dpa / pic AFP
