MALAYSIA Airlines (MAS) has signed a strategic partnership with the Manchester United football club as its official commercial airline to enhance its global reach.

Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) group director Datuk Captain Izham Ismail said this collaboration leverages the club’s extensive community of over 1.1 billion fans and followers worldwide, including 577 million fans within Malaysia Airlines’ primary markets.

He added that partnering such a globally renowned club will amplify MAS’ brand recognition, especially in Europe and South-East Asia.

“MAS looks forward to the exciting opportunities this partnership will bring and the joy it will offer to football fans worldwide,” he said during the group’s media briefing today.

Izham noted that this partnership serves as a crucial factor in achieving MAG’s Long-term Business 2.0 aspirations, empowering the exploration of commercial collaborations beyond the confines of traditional airline partnerships.

“This collaboration acts as our gateway to the global stage, expanding our footprint to audiences worldwide,” he added.

Meanwhile, MAG chief commercial officer Dersenish Aresandiran said MAS will introduce three new routes, namely Malé, Maldives (MLE); Da Nang, Vietnam (DAD); and Chiang Mai, Thailand (CNX).

MAS will commence daily flights to MLE on Aug 1, five weekly flights to CNX starting Aug 15 and daily flights to DAD beginning Sept 24.

He added that MAS will offer enhanced connectivity from its main hub in Kuala Lumpur with new direct flights to MLE, DAD and CNX, with tickets available for purchase from March 22.

“MAS will offer starting fares of RM899 to Maldives, RM849 to Chiang Mai, and RM659 to Da Nang, all of which are all-in-return,” he said.

These new routes will mark the airline’s 13th destination in South Asia and the 16th in Asean.
