KUALA LUMPUR – Harimau Malaya player Muhammad Faisal Abdul Halim’s goal during the action against South Korea on Jan 25 at the 2023 Asian Cup in Qatar was selected as one of the eight best strikes in the race for Best Goal of the Tournament by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
AFC announced in a statement that the goal by Muhammad Faisal who is also known as “Mickey”, was picked out of 132 goals scored through 51 matches in the competition that lasted from Jan 10 to Feb 10.
His candidacy accompanies seven other nominations including Japan’s Keito Nakamura against Vietnam (Jan 14), Saudi Arabia’s Abdulrahman Ghareeb against Oman (Jan 16), Qatar’s Hassan Al Haydos against China (Jan 22) and Thailand’s Supachok Sarachat against Uzbekistan (Jan 30).
Other goal gems came from Jordan’s Mousa Al Tamari against South Korea (Feb 6), South Korea’s Son Heung-min against Australia (Feb 2) and Iran’s Sardar Azmoun against Qatar (Feb 7).
