THE Minister of Communications, Fahmi Fadzil today launched the RAHMAH P-Hailing Package, an initiative to support p-hailing drivers and riders.
The RAHMAH Package provides affordable 40GB data plans starting at just RM33 for P-hailing workers.
“Through this package, p-hailing drivers and riders can enjoy Internet services at a price as low as RM33 with a data plan of at least 40GB,” he said during the launch ceremony in Angkasapuri today.
The package is offered in collaboration with 5 major telecommunication companies – CelcomDigi, Maxis, U Mobile, TM (Unifi Mobile) and YTL Communications (Yes) – as well as 16 p-hailing platform providers like FoodPanda, Grab, Lazada Logistics and more.
The Communication Minister highlighted the importance of the p-hailing industry and gig economy to Malaysia’s growth.
“According to the Ministry of Economy, the gig economy accounts for approx 7% to the overall GDP of the country in 2021 and this amount is expected to remain high in the coming years. Seven out of ten gig economy workers are p-hailing riders and drivers.
“It is hoped that with the launch of the P-Hailing RAHMAH package today, riders and drivers from the 16 involved P-Hailing platform companies will have more affordable packages, helping more Malaysians receive their goods and food packages delivered throughout the country.” he said.
Fahmi stressed the government’s commitment to digital connectivity and support for p-hailing workers facing struggles like uncertain weather conditions.
“Understanding the struggles faced by them (riders and drivers), it is crucial for the government and industry players to do what we can to ease the burden they face in performing daily tasks,” he said.
