AirAsia X records strong growth in passenger numbers and load factor in 4Q23

AirAsia X Bhd (AAX) reported a substantial increase in passenger numbers for the fourth quarter of 2023, reaching 890,289 passengers, marking a 2.6-fold rise from the same period in the previous year.

The airline achieved an impressive passenger load factor (PLF) of 82% in 4Q23, a three-percentage-point increase year-on-year, despite a 2.5 times increase in seat capacity.

AAX attributed the growth to fleet expansion and network expansion in the past year, coupled with strong demand during the year-end holiday season.

The airline’s operational aircraft increased to 16, compared to six in 4Q22, leading to a 2.8 times year-on-year increase in available seat kilometres (ASK) capacity.

On a full-year basis, AAX posted a healthy PLF of 80%, carrying over 2.8 million passengers with a year-on-year growth of about 6.8 times.

The airline served a total of 22 destinations, launching eight routes in 2023.

AAX’s total fleet size stood at 18 A330s as of December 31, 2023, with 16 operational aircraft. – TMR
