PRIME Minister (PM) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is confident that Port of Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd (PTP) will persist in propelling the growth of Malaysia’s logistics and port sector.
He expressed his optimism during his address at Sesi Beramah Mesra with over 400 PTP employees in Gelang Patah, Johor, today.
Anwar highlighted that beyond its strategic location at the Straits of Malacca, PTP’s robust port management record is evident in its ranking as the 15th busiest and sixth most efficient port globally, as per the World Bank’s Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) report.
“Despite global economic challenges, PTP remains dedicated to enhancing capacity, upgrading facilities, and optimising efficiency to solidify its position as a regional trade and shipping hub,” he said.
Moreover, Anwar is optimistic about MMC Group and PTP’s ability to sustain competitiveness and contribute significantly to the national economy, particularly in Johor.
PTP chairman Tan Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh emphasised that the port serves as a benchmark in the regional maritime industry, boasting not only world-class facilities but also substantial influence.
“PTP is the busiest transhipment hub in the country, covering 769ha of terminal and 647ha of free zone that provides services to major shipping companies and container operators, providing shippers in Malaysia and abroad with extensive connectivity to the global market,” he said at the event.
The group plans to invest close to RM26 billion in the next five years for the construction of diverse developments in the Sungai Pulai area.
The anticipated investment and development are poised to generate over 23,000 job opportunities in the region.
Also present at the event were Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook, Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli, Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz, Yayasan Al Bukhary chairman Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhary and Johor exco members.
