PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the Opposition lacks the power to bring a vote of no confidence against him.

He dismissed claims of a weakened Unity Government as mere propaganda to deceive their supporters and maintain their enthusiasm.

Anwar asserted that the government had previously challenged the Opposition to bring forward such a motion, but for over a year, it has not been raised.

He suggested that the Opposition might lack the strength to pursue this motion and sees it as a propaganda tool to boost morale among their supporters.

Expressing a different viewpoint, Anwar said if the Opposition cannot bring about change, they should continue working for the people, and it is ultimately the people who will decide.

He made these remarks after attending Sesi Beramah Mesra with the Port of Tanjung Pelepas workers in Gelang Patah, Johor, on Jan 11, 2024.

Regarding the “Dubai Move”, Anwar emphasised that it has been proven to be a move driven by political anxiety among those who have suffered financial losses.

He advised the Cabinet and government leaders to focus on rebuilding the country, stressing that the focus for 2024 should be on the nation’s development and economic stability.

On Jan 10, it was reported that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah said the Istana Negara would not be involved in any political manoeuvring.

Anwar also conveyed the King’s directive for him and the government to continue the task of governing the country.

This was a central topic during Anwar’s audience with the King for the pre-Cabinet meeting at the Istana Negara.
