Gobind Singh Deo back in Federal Cabinet

KUALA LUMPUR – Gobind Singh Deo (picture) has returned to the Cabinet with the portfolio of Digital Minister.

The appointment was part of the Cabinet reshuffle by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today.

Gobind, 50, was the communications and multimedia minister in the Pakatan Harapan-led government, which was formed in 2018 after the 14th general election (GE14).

During his tenure, Gobind made several changes including the nationwide transition from the analogue to digital TV broadcast.

In the 2008 general election, the son of former DAP chairman, the late Karpal Singh, defeated Barisan Nasional’s Lau Yeng Peng with a 12,593-vote majority.

Since then, Gobind has been trusted to hold important positions in DAP including Central Committee member for the 2008/2011 term, Selangor DAP Committee member in 2010, DAP Pakatan Rakyat Bureau member (Legal Bureau) for the 2012/2015 term and Selangor DAP chairman since 2018.

The DAP deputy chairman is also one of the candidates who created history in GE15 by winning the Damansara parliamentary seat with a resounding majority of 124,619 votes.

He said that he declined Anwar’s request to join the Cabinet line up after GE15 to focus on his role as Damansara’s MP. – BERNAMA / pic TMR FILE
