World Tourism Day, Conference 2025 to boost investment, heritage

MALAYSIA has been selected to host the World Tourism Day (WTD) 2025 programme at the global level with the theme “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation.”

This selection was approved during the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) 25th General Assembly on Oct 19, 2023 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

In addition, the WTD 2025 celebration was proposed to be held in conjunction with the seventh edition of the World Tourism Conference (WTC) 2025, which is an international conference jointly organised by Malaysia and the UNWTO every three years.

Both conferences are in line with the Madani government’s steps in implementing prudent spending and are expected to generate huge profits for the country.

Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing in a press conference with the Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Utama Ab Rauf Yusoh on Dec 4 announced that Melaka was chosen to host the WTD and WTC, from Sept 27 to 29, 2025.

Melaka was chosen because of its status as a global tourism state which is rich with a unique history of various local community heritages.

Tiong said the two programmes can be considered as preparations for all players in the local tourism industry ahead of the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VM2026).

Meanwhile, Abdul Rauf expressed his party’s gratitude to the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (Motac) for trusting the Melaka government to host the events.

He believed that the celebrations, starting with the Melaka Visit Year 2024 (TMM2024) followed by the WTC and WTD 2025 as well as VM2026 will bring economic overflow to the country and the people.

Tiong also chaired the Kick-Off Meeting for the organisation of WTD and WTC 2025 with the Melaka state government to discuss the work of the appointed Special Committee.

Also present were Motac Deputy Minister Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan; State Tourism, Heritage, Art and Culture Exco Datuk Wira Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman as well as Motac’s top management and representatives of the Melaka state government.
