Mercedes-Benz Malaysia, Gentari propel EV growth and infrastructure

GENTARI Sdn Bhd, a clean energy solutions provider, is collaborating with Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in the country.

The partnership aims to explore the potential development of EV charging infrastructure, along with value-added services, such as customised charging subscription plans, to improve the overall experience for Mercedes-Benz EV owners.

Gentari deputy CEO and Green Mobility CEO Shah Yang Razali said they were excited to expand their relationship with a like-minded partner such as MBM, understanding that providing long-distance range confidence is important to EV drivers.

“As the largest direct charging (DC) network operator in the country, Gentari is committed to building more high-powered chargers and connecting all the states in Malaysia.

“This commitment directly contributes to the growth of electric vehicles (EVs) in the country, fostering a long-term transition towards electric mobility,” he said during the unveiling event for the EQE 500 4MATIC SUV by MBM in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

The rapidly expanding EV charging network start-up is targeting a 10% market share in public charge points and Vehicle-as-a-Service (VaaS) services across important markets in the Asia-Pacific region by 2030.

The potential charging point operations would be jointly developed with EV Connection Sdn Bhd and would be installed at selected strategic locations across Malaysia to ease long distance travel by providing range confidence for EV drivers.

“EV adoption is not a solo effort. Automotive manufacturers, charging infrastructure providers and government agencies must collaborate.

“We are proud to have partnered with Mercedes-Benz Malaysia and Gentari, two industry leaders who share our vision for a cleaner and more sustainable future,” said EV Connection MD Lee Yuen How.

The EQE 500 4MATIC SUV is specifically designed to accommodate a wide range of adventures, offering both impressive driving dynamics and generous interior space.

Mercedes-Benz Cars Malaysia CEO and president Amanda Zhang described the SUV as an electric all-rounder that seamlessly combines functionality and design.

“The EQE 500 4MATIC SUV features a sleek silhouette, sporty design and cutting-edge features such as digital controls and innovative materials in the interior.

“It is a perfect combination of purposeful design elements and aerodynamic advancements, setting the stage for a sophisticated and electric future in the automotive industry. This makes it particularly appealing to enthusiasts who value innovation and style,” she added.

The EQE SUV introduces groundbreaking innovations, built on the EVA2 vehicle architecture. It boasts an impressive range of up to 552 km (WLTP) with a 300kW capacity output, incorporates 4MATIC all-wheel drive with electric drivetrains on both axles, and comes equipped with AIRMATIC air suspension. Additionally, it offers a rear axle steering angle of up to 10°, marking a significant advancement in automotive technology.

In terms of exterior highlights, the EQE SUV presents a sporty design characterised by a distinctive front showcasing a three-dimensional star pattern.

The AMG Line exterior boasts specific bumpers, trims, and 21-inch AMG multi-spoke wheels. Additionally, aerodynamically designed elements such as illuminated running boards and a continuous light strip at the rear contribute to its exterior appeal.
