THE Selangor government has allocated RM650 million to Phase 2 of the Sungai Langat flood mitigation plan (RTB) which is expected to start in January 2024 and to be completed in 2030.

Selangor State Infrastructure and Agriculture Exco Izham Hashim said the federal government’s funds were directed towards resolving the flood issue between Dengkil and Labohan Dagang in Sepang, Selangor.

“The Sungai Langat RTB project Phase 2 is funded by the federal government under the high-priority flood mitigation project given to the Malaysian Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS).

“The RM650 million allocation is part of the RM2 billion request from the Selangor Irrigation Department for a comprehensive solution to the flood issue in the Sepang area,” he said at the Selangor State Assembly session today.

The tender briefing and visit took place on Aug 16, and the project is currently in the tender evaluation process which is expected to start in January next year.

Izham said the project aims to widen and deepen Sungai Langat, as well as strengthen the bank and upgrade the main drainage system.

“Also implemented is the construction of tires, flood retaining walls, sluice gates and pump houses,” he added.

As of Nov 11, the federal government has allocated RM725.7 million to the RTB project to address flooding issues in Dengkil and up to Labohan Dagang in Selangor.

Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said the RTB project, implemented in Sungai Langat Phase 1 and Phase 2, aims to protect around 120,000 residents in the area.

These two projects are the ministry’s long-term plans through JPS.
