SELANGOR Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari (picture) today tabled the largest ever budget, amounting to RM2.53 billion for 2024 with the theme “Selangor Mandiri: Driving Progress, Igniting Unity.”

He said, 52.6% (RM1.33 billion) of the total has been allocated for administrative expenses and 47.4% (RM1.2 billion) has been allocated for development expenses.

Amirudin said the state government estimated that some RM2.2 billion can be collected in taxes based on the track record where taxes amounting to RM2bil were successfully collected between August last year and September this year.

“One of the main contributors to the state revenue in 2024 is land premium, amounting to RM 890.94 million.

“This is equivalent to 40.5% of the total estimated revenue,” he said during the Selangor State Budget 2024 tabling at the state legislative assembly today.

Amirudin said the budget this time also experienced a deficit amounting to RM330 million which is lower than last year with a reduction of RM120 million.

Despite deficit spending since the past six budgets, he explained, the State Government will take steps to reduce the figure to a reasonable amount.

“It is through expenditure control instruments as well as the practice of good financial governance principles without affecting the output and impact of expenditure,” he added.

The focus is on four main thrusts which are “Quality investment catalyst, generating high income”, “Raise environmental education, guarantee a sustainable environment”, “Protecting the welfare of the people” and “Raising the unity of the community.”
