KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia advanced to the semi-finals of the 2023 World Junior Mixed Team badminton championship in Spokane, the United States, after a stylish 3-0 victory over India in the quarter-finals on Thursday.
In the match held at The Podium, mixed doubles pair Bryan Jeremy Goonting-Chan Wen Tse needed only 36 minutes to contribute the first point for the country after defeating Sathwik Reddy Kanapuram-Vaishnavi Khadkekar 21-12, 21-16.
Malaysia maintained the momentum in the men’s singles when Eogene Ewe beat Ayush Shetty 21-18, 16-21, 21-16 in 62 minutes to put the team two up.
Women’s singles player Ong Xin Yee then sealed the tie for Malaysia by defeating Devika Sihag 18-21, 21-16, 21-14.
The Malaysian juniors will face China in the semi-finals later Friday (US time).
In the last edition, Malaysia finished the mixed team competition in ninth place after beating Denmark 4-1. — BERNAMA
