GAS MALAYSIA Bhd (Gas Malaysia) has partnered with Pertubuhan Tindakan Wanita Islam (Pertiwi) to hold a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to feed the homeless and urban poor at Kuala Lumpur Homeless Transit Centre.
This is the group’s first collaboration project with Pertiwi which addresses urban poverty and assists homeless communities.
According to Gas Malaysia Group CEO Ahmad Hashimi Abdul Manap, this program was held the day before Malaysia Day which reflects the group’s noble efforts to assist the underprivileged in this area.
“As usual, we always do our CSR initiatives in areas where we have gas supply.
“So certainly, Kuala Lumpur is one of the areas where we have been supplying gas for the last many years,” he told reporters after the event launch at the Kuala Lumpur Homeless Transit Centre today.
Also present are Pertiwi exco member Datin Haryani Abdul Hamid as well as the group’s volunteers.
Ahmad Hashimi added that he believes that their small efforts can make a big difference to the community, especially to the underprivileged.
This initiative is part of Gas Malaysia’s four pillars which consist of the community, sports, education and the environment which is to ensure the group’s business goals are well balanced with responsible corporate practices and also aligns with its CSR theme “Energising the Community”.
“We hope to assist at least about 200 to 240 underprivileged people as mentioned earlier, which consists of the urban poor and the homeless communities.
“It is our duty as a responsible corporate citizen to extend a helping hand to those in need.
“Feeding the homeless and urban poor is an affirmation of our commitment to the wellbeing of the communities we serve,” he said.
Further sessions for the underprivileged which will be held on September 20 and 29 which will involve different groups of Gas Malaysia staff.
