ASTRO Malaysia Holdings Bhd is set to acquire Basecamp Films Sdn Bhd, a prominent visual post-production studio, with the intention of establishing a new division called Astro Sound+Vision.
Astro, through its subsidiary Astro Productions Sdn Bhd (APSB), has entered into an asset purchase agreement to seamlessly integrate Basecamp Films’ resources into APSB, forming the Astro Sound+Vision unit.
The strategic move is poised to redefine post-production in Astro and the wider industry, Astro said in a statement today.
Astro Sound+Vision is envisioned as a hub providing a comprehensive range of world-class audio and visual post-production services for various video content, including films, TV series, shows, and commercials.
Astro CEO Euan Smith said the expanded Sound+Vision unit positions Astro to deliver international standards of quality and finishing for video content, serving both Astro’s requirements and external clients.
The services offered by Astro Sound+Vision encompass high-quality cinema-based color grading, Dolby Vision HDR post-production, digital lab services, and final output in 4K/HDR streaming for digital cinema.
It also includes audio engineering, recording, sound design, foley, and final mixing in surround sound and Dolby Atmos for various content, such as feature films, broadcast TV productions, games, and commercials.
Astro Sound+Vision stands out with Malaysia’s only certified THX cinema mix facility, along with additional certifications for Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos for TV broadcast and cinema.
The acquisition and the establishment of Astro Sound+Vision are expected to strengthen Astro’s position in the post-production industry and enhance its capabilities to cater to a wide range of audio and visual content needs.
