ProtectHealth kicks off aggressive engagement for Madani Medical Scheme

THE Health Ministry (MoH) has rolled out the Madani Medical Scheme to the bottom 40% (B40) population in 10 designated districts nationwide.

Beginning June 15, 2023, these districts are Johor Baru (Johor), Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Klang, Petaling, Hulu Langat and Gombak (Selangor), Kinta (Perak), Timur Laut (Pulau Pinang), Kuching (Sarawak) and Kota Kinabalu (Sabah).

The scheme provides recipients of Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah with free Acute Primary Care Services where the lower-income group can seek treatment at registered private medical clinics (GPs).

ProtectHealth Corp Sdn Bhd as the scheme administrator has been vigorously promoting the scheme, ensuring widespread adoption by the targeted recipients as they are entitled to enjoy the benefits.

Since its introduction, ProtectHealth has been proactively engaging with representatives from relevant states, government agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), associations as well as community leaders across the country such as Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan, the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda), the Federal Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority (Felcra), the Pertiwi Soup Kitchen, the Federal Territory and Selangor Taxi Operators Association (PERPEKLI), Uni Malaysia Labour Centre (Uni-MLC) and MySejahtera.

“Up to July 2023, ProtectHealth has been diligently gearing up to meet and conduct briefings to 70 Health Clinics and 186 GPs involving the 10 districts.

“Throughout the same period, six briefings were held with resident associations and local communities, with a high B40 population. These include PPR Pangsapuri Sri Kasih, PPR Taman Kajang Sentral, PPR Taman Medan Jaya and many more,” ProtectHealth said in a recent statement.

The primary focus of these engagements is to raise awareness about the scheme’s benefits and the government’s efforts to enhance access to acute primary care services in the private sector for the lower-income group.

As of Aug 1, 2023, the number of registered GPs for the programme has surpassed 600 clinics.

To date, more than 28,000 B40 households have obtained treatment under the Madani Medical Scheme.

Plans are also underway to expand this scheme to more districts such as Kota Baru and Pasir Mas (Kelantan); Kuala Terengganu and Kuala Nerus (Terengganu); Kuantan (Pahang); Melaka Tengah (Melaka); Seremban (Negri Sembilan); Kota Setar and Kuala Muda (Kedah); Seberang Perai Tengah (Pulau Pinang) and Perlis.

“We urge eligible beneficiaries to obtain cost-free treatment at the nearest GP clinic by simply bringing their identification card, without prior registration required,” it added.
