Public can apply for the allocation to implement any small public infrastructure projects in their localities

THE Economy Ministry is allocating RM500 million through the Inisiatif Kemudahan Rakyat (IKR) for citizens to submit applications on small public infrastructure projects directly to the ministry.
Minister Rafizi Ramli said the initiative was introduced to enable the public to directly inform the ministry on the need for small public infrastructure projects in respective localities.
This also allows the public to apply for the requirement for allocation consideration by the ministry.
“This initiative is an aid from the government to democratise government funds in financing the implementation of small public infrastructure projects that fall under the jurisdiction and the responsibility of state government and local authorities.
“The implementation of IKR also aims to help small contractors throughout Malaysia that will benefit from the projects as well as accelerate the implementation of small public infrastructure projects throughout the country,” he said in a statement today.
The criteria for small project applications include small infrastructure projects that provide immediate benefits to the public, the cost of the requested project should not exceed RM200,000, the project can be implemented in the current year, best value for money, no luxurious elements and is necessary for general interest or use.
Apart from that, the project should not be for the purpose of individual needs or assets and is not located on privately owned land, and does not involve land acquisition, projects do not overlap with projects that have acquired the approval of allocations from other government agencies (federal and state government).
The public can apply through www.ikr.ekonomi.gov.my starting today.
