Accept party’s decision, work for unity govt victory, says Umno Women’s chief

UMNO Women’s Chief Datuk Dr Noraini Ahmad (picture) asked the party members to accept the party’s decision to be accepted with an open heart as it was no longer a dominant party in the government.

Responding to the voices of Umno grassroots members who disagree with their party working with their former enemies, Noraini said, “Right now, it is more important for the future and betterment of the people of Malaysia.”

“We should accept the coalition in this unity government with an open heart. Why? Because we have roles and responsibilities. We need to ensure that the political, economic and social stability in this country can be established.

“Remember, we are no longer a dominant party. We’re not going to contest all the seats. We need to work together. We need to compromise. To bring victory to the unity government, which we support together,” she told 1,159 Umno Women delegates at the Umno general assembly 2023.

Noraini added the unity government cooperation has been proof that the party could put personal sentiments aside and prioritise the country’s interests over ego and dignity.

She said that has also shown that Umno has matured and put itself to work for a better future for the people of Malaysia.

“Firstly, this cooperation has proven that Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN), as a major party, are capable of transcending political differences and working together for the greater good.

“In today’s political landscape, there are no permanent friends or enemies; only allies or adversaries.

“It dispels the misconception that Umno is resistant to change and underscores that it is not a racist party,” she said.

Noraini also elaborated on the achievements of the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development led by Umno’s president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, stating that under the president’s leadership, the ministry has implemented various reforms and rural projects to enhance the quality of life in rural communities.

“Umno has fearlessly expressed its disagreements within the current administration, while offering constructive criticism. Drawing on our experience, we have effectively played the role of checks and balances in the unity government,” she said. — TMR
