If the former Umno leader joins the party, he can help build the party’s strength
PARTI Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has offered former Umno leader Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar (picture) the position of Supreme Council member should the latter joined.
He said the decision regarding the offer to the former Rembau MP had been discussed with the party’s top leadership recently.
“I have discussed this matter with my friends, we have two vacancies, if he (Khairy) agrees.
“This is not my bait, we let him to decide, we don’t push too hard. He knows the right time,” he told a press conference today.
Muhyiddin hoped Khairy Jamaluddin, or more fondly known as KJ, can make a decision following the state election (PRN) which is expected to take place this June.
“The state assembly will dissolve in June, the time period is limited, so KJ can think carefully. This is the right time, everyone expects him to join Perikatan Nasional (PN).
“He had asked to see me a long time ago, after he was dismissed from Umno. So, we met to openly discuss his direction and our party’s hopes.
“KJ is a young political figure of high calibre, actually he didn’t ask to enter, I offered him,” he said.
Muhyiddin said, if Khairy Jamaluddin joins Bersatu, he can help build the party’s strength.
“Everyone already knows what happened to Ummo, it was almost completely destroyed, the house of Umno has become a den of DAP.
“This one may destroy the hopes of the majority of Umno members, so I don’t need to say anything. For Bersatu, we know the direction, fight for the people, defend all our rights and prove that the general election is valid after the Bersatu and PAS coalition is supported by the Malays “, he said.
Meanwhile, regarding preparations for PRN in six states, PN has almost finalised the distribution of seats among its component parties.
The PN chairman said the discussion on the matter will also be raised at the PN Supreme Council meeting which is scheduled to take place on May 23.
“I have instructed the negotiating team of each party to complete (the allocation of seats). They are the Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man and Gerakan president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau.
“There are only one or two seats left and when this is finished, we will know who it belongs to. Then we will ask for a list of names of potential candidates suitable to be placed in the state assembly seats that will be contested,” he said. — TMR
