Bursa Malaysia stays higher at mid-morning on improved buying sentiment

BURSA Malaysia remained higher at mid-morning on improved buying sentiment in selected heavyweights counters.

At 11.13 am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 1.57 points to 1,423.68 from Thursday’s close of 1,422.11.

The barometer index opened 0.16 of a point higher at 1,422.27.

Bursa Malaysia Bhd and its subsidiaries were closed on Friday, April 21, 2023, and Monday, April 24, 2023, in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri holidays.

Market breadth, however, was negative as decliners led gainers 400 versus 279, while 345 counters were unchanged, 1,274 untraded and 19 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.14 billion units worth RM535.37 million.

Among the heavyweight counters, Maybank and CIMB were two sen lower at RM8.68 and RM5.17 respectively, while Public Bank, CelcomDigi and Tenaga rose one sen each to RM3.94, RM4.39 and RM8.91 respectively.

Petronas Chemicals, meanwhile, was flat at RM7.20.

As for the actives, Jade Marvel increased three sen to 30.5 sen, Salutica rallied 16.5 sen to 98 sen while Fitters Diversified was flat at five sen.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index gained 1.06 points to 10,452.02, the FBMT 100 Index bagged 1.53 points to 10,137.24 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index increased 3.67 points to 10,778.99.

The FBM ACE Index was 27.98 points lower at 5,315.51, and the FBM 70 index fell 37.84 points to 13,607.38.

Sector-wise, the Industrial Products and Services Index shaved 1.19 points to 171.97, the Financial Services Index eased 16.55 points to 15,649.31 while the Plantation Index went up 40.98 points to 6,874.50. — Bernama
