Report: Rohana’s return US$10m 1MDB monies to MACC

FORMER Astro Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Datuk Rohana Rozhan (picture) had returned US$10 million (RM44.2 million) monies and assets linked to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) to the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Utusan Malaysia, quoting a source, reported the ex-girlfriend of former Goldman Sachs banker Tim Leissner returned the assets last year after MACC investigation regarding it was concluded.

“MACC has concluded the matter and for now, there was nothing needed regarding 1MDB funds from Rohana,” the source was quoted as saying by the Malay daily.

Yesterday, The Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) replied in Parliament that it had no knowledge of whether Rohana had returned 1MDB-linked assets to Malaysia in a parliamentary written reply to Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng’s question on the matter.

On March 13, Parliament was told that 1MDB’s debt balance was RM9.7 billion while RM41.6 billion in 1MDB assets have been recovered.

Rohana’s link with the 1MDB funds comes to light after her name was mentioned by Leissner during an 1MDB trial involving his former colleague’s Roger Ng in the United States of America in February last year.

The former banker said he brought a house in London, United Kingdom for Rohana after he ended a 10 year relationship with her to marry an American model

In March last year, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed they were investigating Rohana following Leissner’s claim under the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Prevention Act 2001 (Amla).

He also said her assets were frozen following the investigation. – TMR / pic Hussein Shaharuddin
