THE Selangor government is currently coordinating the requirements for child daycare centres and nurseries imposed by the local government (PBT).

The state public health, unity, women and family development exco Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said this would help make it easier for the daycare centre operators to get their permits as they have to adhere to both PBT regulations as well as the Child Care Centre Act 1984 (Act 308).

She said the state has even engaged with the PBTs of the state to review the conditions related to standardisation and facilitate the application process in addition to encouraging the registration of both home and office daycares.

“Following this engagement session, we wrote a letter to the Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri to extend the period of one year for the registration of home nurseries that are still in the valid period of the certificate in accordance with the Act 308,” she replied following question from Subang Jaya state assemblyperson Michelle Ng at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly session today.

Siti Mariah also suggested home nurseries be removed from the requirements stated under Act 308 as the rules are only allocated to institutional nurseries, workplace nurseries and community nurseries.

She said, however, such places still need to be registered as it will help working mothers in the state.

“We have to prove that we can follow or we can obey the existing rules and if there is a problem, we know they play an important role in helping working mothers.

“It should be that we call a social application service with permission so the ministry needs to look again because in the current era, if we don’t do something for us to make it easier without us compromising anything,” she said.
