Pos Malaysia unveils Sustainability Roadmap

by NURUL SUHAIDI

POS Malaysia Bhd has launched its Sustainability Roadmap, with a target of reducing its environmental footprint and achieving net-zero carbon emissions for its operations by 2050.

With the roadmap, it is focusing on six initiatives aimed at alternate delivery methods, fleet optimisation, green buildings, waste management, sustainable packaging and digital learning.

Pos Malaysia Group CEO Charles Brewer said with more than 200 years of history, it has a responsibility towards a more sustainable future in all aspects.

“We will transform our fleet to electric, retrofit our buildings, source renewable energy and educate our fantastic employees on how to be better,” he said in a recent statement.

To achieve this, Pos Malaysia will collaborate with its suppliers, customers and partners to meet the target, while encouraging its team to reduce emissions and take action.

The target is also to support keeping global warming below 1.5°C.

Apart from its carbon emission reduction commitment, Pos Malaysia is also looking to recycle 50% of operational waste by leveraging technology and reducing overall waste generation.

“We aim to play a part in the circular economy by increasing renewable and recyclable inputs for all packaging products to 80% and migrate 50% of staff training to a digital platform,” Brewer added.

Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil during the launch applauded the effort, given Malaysia is fully committed to being a key part of the global transition to a low-carbon and carbon-neutral society by 2050.

He noted that Malaysia has increased its key mitigation ambition to reduce greenhouse gas emissions intensity by 45% against GDP by 2030 as a signatory of the Paris Agreement and under the 12th Malaysia Plan.

“Hence, it is encouraging to see that Pos Malaysia is cementing its commitment with its Sustainability Roadmap to achieve its decarbonising targets.

“Taking sustainability seriously is the right way to make our lives better and I am glad that Pos Malaysia, proudly a national brand and establishment, has taken the lead in protecting and nurturing the planet,” said Fahmi.

Notably Pos Malaysia delivers to more than 11 million addresses, has more than 7,400 vehicles and one of Malaysia’s largest real estate portfolios
