MALAYSIA and Singapore are ready to strengthen their commitment on technology transfer and shared expertise in the smart agriculture sector to address food security issues.
These agreements were brought up during the courtesy visit of the High Commissioner of Singapore to Malaysia Vanu Gopala Menon on Feb 16, 2023, at the Farmers Organisation Board (LPP) Tower in Kuala Lumpur.
During the visit, Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS) Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu (picture) highlighted that food supply stability is a global issue and needs to be addressed jointly by Malaysia and Singapore.
In addition to that, Malaysia also invited Singapore to strengthen food security through investment in the modern agricultural sector in Malaysia.
Singapore has also stated its willingness to share its technology and knowledge of smart agriculture.
“Singapore is an important agricultural trading partner for Malaysia,” the ministry said in a recent statement.
From January to October 2022, the value of trade in the agricultural sector between Malaysia and Singapore amounted to RM15.99 billion.
“Both countries are ready to commit to strengthening bilateral trade in agriculture in line with the goal of securing sustainable and continuous sources of food supply,” MAFS added.
