Ex-NGO chairman, treasurer remanded to assist false claim probe

JOHOR BARU • The former chairman and former treasurer of an NGO) have been remanded for seven days from today to assist investigation over false claims to a government department amounting to RM11,000 two years ago.

The remand until this Sunday against a 47-year-old man with the title ‘Datuk’ and the ex-treasurer, 43 was issued by Magistrate Mohd Zulhilmi Ibrahim at the Magistrate’s Court here today.

The remand order against the two men was issued to enable the case to be investigated under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009.

The individual with the title Datuk was earlier a party candidate who contested in the Johor state election in March last year.  

Earlier, sources said the two men were detained at Johor MACC office here between 8.30pm to 9.30pm after they came to give their statements.

It was learned that at the end of January 2021, they submitted false claims to a government department at a district for the supply and implementation of a treatment and rehabilitation programme when the supply was not carried out. – Bernama / graphic TMR
