HUAWEI Malaysia will be collaborating with Progressture Power Sdn Bhd and JJ-Lapp Cable (S) Pte Ltd on projects in renewable energy (RE), green ICT infrastructure, energy savings and emission reductions as part of their effort to drive Malaysia’s green digital transition.
Huawei Malaysia’s digital power VP Chong Chern Peng said the collaboration is part of the company’s effort in creating a greener and more sustainable world.
“Huawei will focus on ICT innovation to empower green development, improve digital infrastructure energy efficiency, increase RE share in electricity generation and enable green industries.
“We believe we can deliver comprehensive solutions that meet the expectations of our customers with a shared vision and commitment to bring forth power solutions that collectively deliver a greener, more sustainable operational environment as part of energy transitions.
In the long run, with a robust portfolio of solar projects, we will be able to establish a recurring income stream,” he said in his speech during the ceremony today.
He also noted that businesses are shifting their investments toward ESG entities, which makes it advantageous for Malaysia to proactively position its RE sector, with technology and sustainability as driving forces.
“This is evident as corporations worldwide are increasingly implementing responsible behaviours while they pursue profit-making activities. These entities are realigning their corporate objectives with environmental responsibility as they realise that responsible business practices will create economic and societal value,” he added.
Meanwhile, Progressture Power COO Ng Yew Weng said their company believes in significant collaborations that can leverage the power of technology to help organisations decarbonise their operations while solving current environmental concerns.
“As the key service provider for Huawei and JJ-LAPP, we will invest heavily in the ownership and development of clean energy assets, including solar photovoltaic systems for businesses, electric vehicle charging network solutions, battery energy storage systems and green data centre facilities.
“It is our goal with this collaboration to help businesses to seamlessly transition to clean energy and significantly reduce their carbon footprint. In a sense, this meaningful partnership will contribute to the world’s efforts to combat climate change,” he further added.
On that note, JJ-LAPP GM Chang Chee Keong also mentioned that their company is committed to providing reliable and sustainable solutions as well as services to achieve the goal and mission of carbon neutrality.
The collaboration will see the companies creating and implementing cleantech solutions that will help businesses accelerate their sustainability efforts and achieve net-zero carbon emissions.
The partnership will also involve the exchanging of expertise and leveraging each entity’s strengths and experience in new energy — creating a pathway towards a carbon-neutral Malaysia.
Separately, Chong revealed that the amount of Malaysia’s RE supply was anticipated to be between 23% and 32% by 2035. However, it was later revised to 40% in the Malaysia Renewable Energy Roadmap as the New Capacity Target to satisfy the country’s carbon neutrality pledge by 2050.
“Hence, accelerating the transition to RE is vital, considering that the country’s energy consumption are rising and may soon exceed supply,” he said.
