Loke: No celebrations, convoys, please

ANTHONY Loke (picture) is advising DAP leaders at all levels against organising any form of celebration or convoy in light of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim being named the 10th Prime Minister this evening.

“We urge everyone to stay calm and respect the decision of the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong.

“The government which will be formed is a Unity Government which consists of various political parties.

“We must work together and be united in supporting the prime minister to steer the country out of the crisis that we are currently in,” he said in a statement today.

Loke, who just returned from Kuching, Sarawak, was on his way to Istana Negara for the swearing in ceremony.

He had met Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Abang Haji Openg at the latter’s residence this morning to openly apologise to the Sarawak government and its people for any statement that might have offended them.

GPS leaders previously said they will not cooperate with Pakatan Harapan, citing statements made against the Sarawak government after the 2018 election.

In 2019, then DAP secretary general Lim Guan Eng said Sarawak would go bankrupt in three years.

Following Loke’s apology, Lim also later made a public apology to Sarawak. — TMR
