THE National Higher Education Fund Corp (PTPTN) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) to raise awareness on the importance of savings, through the National Education Savings Scheme (Simpan SSPN) and the repayment of PTPTN loans to secure the future generation’s education.
Through the MoU, both PTPTN and USM will work together in developing, supporting and empowering research efforts in identifying ways to increase the repayment of education loans and education savings for the future security of children’s education.
PTPTN CEO Ahmad Dasuki Abdul Majid said the collaboration is one of the proactive efforts to raise public awareness, especially among the younger generation who will become parents.
“In addition, this collaboration is also very significant to educate students on the importance of making loan repayments for the sustainability of loans to future generations,” Ahmad Dasuki said in a joint statement recently.
Meanwhile, USM vice-chancellor Datuk Dr Narimah Samat believes the strategic partnership between both parties will spark new ideas, especially in the field of literacy and financial planning.
“At the same time, this collaboration is also hoped to develop human capital among USM students through various quality skills programme initiatives, so that graduates can meet the needs of the industry upon graduation,” she said.
Through the partnership, both PTPTN and USM will also be working together across various scopes including enhancing the skills and knowledge of graduates to meet the needs of the industry.
They also agreed to cultivate savings of Simpan SSPN for all USM staff through various programmes, as well as research and development to improve students’ understanding of loan repayments and savings.
Moreover, USM staff will be awarded an Excellent Service Award in the form of Simpan SSPN Prime account, and delivered information and promotion through the appropriate medium.
