Northport wins big at NCOSH Awards

NORTHPORT (M) Bhd has taken home the CEO of the Year (Private Sector), the Business Services and Mentor-Mentee (Mentor) awards at the National Occupational Safety and Health Awards 2020/2021 on Nov 11, 2022.

The awards were presented by National Council of Occupational Safety and Health (NCOSH) DG Mohd Anuar Embi to Northport CEO Datuk Azman Shah Mohd Yusof.

Azman Shah said that over the years, Northport has made continuous improvement to its health, safety and environment (HSE) measures to protect employees and port users from safety and health hazards.

“We have further strengthened our measures, especially during the last two years, in our effort to fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. These awards are the testament of our firm commitment in promoting HSE as an essential part of our business operations,” he said in a statement recently.

He further thanked his team for their perseverance, dedication and commitment in embracing Northport’s journey towards HSE excellence.

“We would also like to thank all our business partners, government agencies, suppliers, contractors and stakeholders for their continuedous support that helped us get to where we are today,” he added.

Under the Ministry of Human Resources, NCOSH is responsible for determining the direction and policy in relation to occupational safety and health (OSH) in Malaysia.

The main objective of the establishment of NCOSH is to ensure that the safety, health and welfare of employees in the workplace are protected.

Hence, the NCOSH Award is one of the most recognised awards in Malaysia to honour organisations and individuals with proven outstanding OSH performance.

For the record, Northport is the reigning Business Services category winner after receiving the award at the National Occupational Safety and Health Award 2019 in February 2020.

Northport has been recognised with several awards and acknowledgements including international awards for its outstanding commitment in conducting its business operations.

Northport became the first Malaysian port to have won the International Association of Ports and Harbours (IAPH) 2022 Sustainability Award under the Health Safety and Security category during the IAPH 2022 World Ports Conference held in Vancouver, Canada in 2019.

Due to the win, the company was the first Malaysian port to be awarded the ISO 45001:2018 standard.

“We will continue this journey together in our quest to become a ‘Safer, Greener, Smarter and Better’ port,” Azman Shah concluded.
