Ismail Sabri: BN offers strong, steady govt to Malaysians

The caretaker PM lists out some of his achievement during his tenure in governing the country

CARETAKER Prime Minister (PM) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (picture) is offering Malaysians a strong and stable government, a steady economy and all their well-being will be taken care of regardless of race and religion, if Barisan Nasional (BN) is given the mandate to govern the country.

Ismail Sabri said a strong and stable federal government is needed to continue the momentum of the country’s post Covid-19 economic recovery after the 15th General Election (GE15) this Saturday.

“The image of the administration that I will create after GE15 is going to be the image similar to that of before the election. I took over this government at a very difficult time when daily Covid-19 cases stood at 24,000 with hundreds of deaths.

“There were almost not enough beds in the intensive care unit, the economy was in a very bad state because the economic sector was closed almost completely. There was power struggle in political landscape due to political instability resulting from the changing of PM twice.

“However, look at the achievements I have made in the past one year and four months. We were one of the best countries in solving the Covid-19 epidemic from 24,000 (cases) daily when our vaccination rate was one of the highest compared to other countries,” the PM said as reported by Utusan Malaysia.

According to Ismail Sabri, although the country’s economy was in a bad state, we are able to achieved a GDP of +14.2% as per Bank Negara Malaysia’s data.

“This subsequently made our country among one of the best in terms of GDP achievement. From 5% in the first quarter (1Q) to 8.9% in the 2Q and to 14.2% in 3Q22.

“In terms of the country’s unemployment rate, we have reduced it to 3.6%. If the rate is less than 4%, it is considered full employment, which means that we can reduce unemployment.

“The same goes for foreign direct investment, foreign investment, trade and so on. So today, we prove that in terms of wholesale and retail it has increased so much. So, from an economic point of view, it can also be resolved compared to other countries,” he said.

Ismail Sabri added at that time, he also managed to stabilise the country’s politics through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the government and the Opposition parties.

“It has never happened in the history of our country that the government and the Opposition can sit down at the table to sign an MoU to establish a ceasefire in the country which made politics stable. Even the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and the amendment to the Federal Constitution were approved with the support of all parties unanimously.

“The Anti-Hopping Law, something that we have been talking about for a long time, was never approved. During my time, it was approved so calmly and there was no objection from anyone. Finally, the politics of the country can be stabilised,” he added.

Compared to others, he said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim could never prove his success as PM, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who ruled for 22 months was overthrown by his own coalition party and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin fell after 18 months.

“I could solve various issues raised even though I was only 15 months in administering the country. Give me another five years, there will be many things I can do,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri believes that as the election campaigns intensify where many personal issues regarding the candidates are raise, it will not be among the thing BN is concern about because it is not one of the coalition’s campaigning materials.
