UTP hits new milestone in QS Asia University Rankings 2023

KUALA LUMPUR – Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) has set a new milestone by securing an impressive 68th position in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Asia University Rankings 2023.

UTP jumped four places in the rankings, where the institution was at the 72nd spot in the same rankings last year.

In the latest rankings, the university has improved its scores across seven indicators namely academic reputation, faculty/student ratio, international research network, citations per paper, proportion of international faculty, proportion of inbound and outbound exchange students.

UTP vice chancellor Prof Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib said the impeccable achievement in the latest QS Asia University rankings was due to the unwavering support from Petronas and the university’s partners from academic institutions and industries as well as the enormous dedication and commitment from the staff and students.

“UTP’s performance in the QS Asia University Rankings is a landmark accomplishment for the university, as it validates the quality of our academic programmes and learning delivery, as well as the faculty and staff.

“It is also a testament of the university’s strong capabilities of educators and researchers, with innovative, impactful, and quality research,” he said in a statement.

Mohamed Ibrahim said in a world that is increasingly volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous, UTP has progressively enhanced the building blocks for its future focusing on sustainable global prominence.

“To that end, future-proofing our academic programmes is vital. This calls for the infusion of new developments in technology and digitalisation into the curriculum, whether it is data analytics or artificial intelligence and subjects related to society and humanities,” he said.

Mohamed Ibrahim said alongside UTP’s core pillars of improving academic delivery and enhancing research capabilities, the university was placing student experience at the centre of UTP’s strategic direction for the coming years – offering students experiences that are enriching, rewarding and transformative.

“Attention is being paid to every facet of the student experience from the academic and social engagement, support and services provided, vibrant campus and surroundings, to personal growth and achievement,” he said.

He also said that the university has brought an international community of students to UTP through student exchanges and collaborations among students and staff with global institutions of higher learning.

“These are the foundation blocks for taking UTP towards sustainable global prominence. We want to firmly ensure that whatever we accomplish is sustainable, and not just short-term successes. There will be challenges for sure, but we will grow by overcoming them and emerge even stronger and better,” he added. – Bernama / pic credit: utp.edu.my
